Abuja Security personnel at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja used gunshots to disperse protesters and journalists on Saturday. The security operatives targeted the protesters and journalists, who then ran for cover. The protesters had regrouped after being initially dispersed by security agents at the stadium. Suddenly, masked security operatives, believed to be from the Department of State Services, began shooting at the protesters without warning.

In response, the protesters fled into the surrounding bushes, with some security operatives giving chase. In a related incident, the remaining masked operatives then targeted the journalists who were in a different area. As the operatives approached, the journalists fled and sought refuge in any available vehicle.

The masked security personnel fired their weapons as the journalists attempted to escape. Bullets struck the car of a reporter from Premium Times at three different locations as they were leaving the scene. Additionally, a commuter vehicle’s windows were shattered by the gunfire.
