Sen. Natasha Provides 2,400 Bags of Fertilizers To Kogi Farmers

Federal lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, took significant steps to support local agriculture by distributing four trucks of fertilizers to farmers on Saturday. This initiative is part of her ongoing efforts to enhance food security and promote agricultural development within her constituency.

The four trucks contained a total of 2,400 bags of NPK and Urea fertilizers. This intervention was facilitated by the federal government, aimed at boosting food production and ensuring that local farmers have the resources they need to succeed.

The distribution event took place at her country home in Ihima, Okehi, and saw participation from various farmers’ unions across the five local government areas in the district. Additionally, representatives from Ebira farmers’ unions in neighboring states, the Ebira Peoples Association, and members of the Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo communities in Kogi Central were also in attendance.

During the vibrant ceremony, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan addressed the crowd, encouraging farmers to register with unions in their areas. She emphasized that having accurate data about farmers and their needs is essential for effective federal government interventions, which can only be achieved through verifiable records.

In her speech, she highlighted that the fertilizers were provided to the people of Kogi Central by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recognized the importance of supporting local farmers. She stated, “He thought it wise to support the farmers of Kogi Central, and he provided us with four trailers.”

The senator explained the distribution plan, noting that it would consider farmers based in Kogi Central as well as those farming in neighboring states. She mentioned that many Ebira farmers reside in Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, and Nasarawa states, and a portion of the fertilizers would be allocated to them, while the majority would benefit local farmers.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed her commitment to inclusivity, stating that farmers from other ethnic communities, such as the Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo, who reside in Kogi Central would also be included in the distribution. She acknowledged the challenges faced by all farmers during difficult times and emphasized the need for collective support and interventions.

Overall, the event marked a significant step toward strengthening agricultural practices in Kogi Central, fostering unity among diverse communities, and ensuring that farmers have the necessary resources to thrive.
