Katsina PDP Faction Chooses New Leaders
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, led by gubernatorial candidate Yakubu Lado, convened a congress on Saturday at the state party secretariat. During this gathering, new officials were elected to fill various positions within the party.
The chairman of the congress, Ilu Bello, announced Nura Kurfi as the new chairman of the PDP in Katsina. This election included representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission, ensuring that the process adhered to constitutional guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Amadi, expressed gratitude and emphasized that the new officials would strive to live up to the confidence placed in them. He highlighted their commitment to revitalizing the party’s structure.

Amadi also declared their intention to reclaim the state in the upcoming 2027 general election, expressing optimism for the future of the PDP in Katsina. His remarks resonated with the gathered supporters, who cheered for the new leadership.
However, the congress was marked by the noticeable absence of several prominent stakeholders from the main opposition in the state. Notable figures such as House of Representatives member Salisu Majigiri and former party chairman Senator Ibrahim Tsauri did not attend the event.
Sources revealed that these individuals and their supporters do not align with the Lado faction. A representative stated, “We are not part of the Lado team. This was why we did not show up at the venue. We belong to Mustapha Inuwa.”
This division within the party signals ongoing tensions and differing loyalties among PDP members in Katsina, as factions vie for control and influence ahead of future elections.
