Huawei Reveals Phone That Folds in Three Places
Chinese company Huawei has just shown off its new phone that can fold in three places. This happened on Tuesday, right after Apple revealed its new iPhone that’s good at using artificial intelligence (AI).
Huawei’s new phone is called the Mate XT. The company’s leader, Richard Yu, introduced it at their main office in Shenzhen, China. Even though it’s a very fancy and expensive phone, over three million people said they wanted to buy it before it was even officially announced.
The Mate XT comes in red and gold colors and will be available to buy on September 20. It’s not cheap – prices start at 19,999 yuan, which is about $2,800.
Yu said Huawei has always been ahead in making folding phones. He explained that this is the first phone in the world that can fold in three places. He also mentioned that they worked really hard to make sure they could produce a lot of these phones and that they would be reliable.

This new phone comes out just a day after Apple showed its iPhone 16, which is designed to use AI in new ways. Apple hopes this will help them sell more phones and keep up with other tech companies.
Huawei is now the fourth biggest smartphone maker in China. They used to be the biggest, but they had problems when the US government stopped them from using American technology. However, they’ve made a comeback by using parts made in China.
Huawei is very good at making folding phones. In the first half of 2024, they sold more than half of all the folding phones bought in China.
Experts think this new three-folding phone will make people see Huawei as a leader in phone technology. But they also say it probably won’t hurt Apple’s sales much because Apple’s phones are popular for different reasons and appeal to more people.
