Minister of Information Muhammed Idris says that the federal government is actively working on the issues raised, rendering the protests unnecessary.

He emphasized that the government is not only responsive but also deeply committed to listening to the voices and concerns of its citizens. Idris highlighted the government’s proactive measures to ensure food availability across the nation, noting that an impressive total of 20 trucks loaded with food supplies have been dispatched to state governors, aimed at assisting those in need. Additionally, he pointed out that rice is currently being sold at a remarkable discount of about 50%, with each bag priced at ₦40,000. This rice has been strategically distributed to various centers throughout the states, with an initial allocation of ten trucks designated for each state to help meet local demands.
While acknowledging that these supplies may still fall short of what is required, Idris assured the public that further interventions are in the pipeline to enhance food security. He also underscored the significant investments being made in the agricultural sector, which are anticipated to lead to a reduction in food prices as the rainy season progresses. Furthermore, he discussed the recent disbursement of student loans, which includes provisions for over 2 million students, aiming to alleviate financial burdens associated with education.
“As of last week, around 110,000 applications had been received, and we expect even more in the coming days. The government is dedicated to ensuring that no student is denied the opportunity for education due to financial constraints,” Idris stated passionately.
In addition to educational initiatives, Idris referenced the government’s efforts to create job opportunities for 3 million young people through the MTT program. He also spoke about the anticipated cost reductions associated with the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for transportation. The government is actively importing buses and conversion kits, with conversion centers now becoming operational across various regions. This transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is expected to significantly lower transportation costs by over 60%, making travel more affordable for citizens.
While reiterating the fundamental right of Nigerians to engage in peaceful protests, Idris cautioned against the risks of such protests being hijacked and devolving into violence. He urged individuals planning to protest to carefully reconsider their actions, emphasizing that the government is actively working to address a myriad of pressing issues, including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and employment. By highlighting these ongoing efforts, Idris aimed to foster understanding and cooperation between the government and the citizens, encouraging a collaborative approach to overcoming challenges facing the nation.
