FG Allocates N47.5bn to Upgrade 50 Secondary Schools.
The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has recently disclosed plans for infrastructural upgrades at a total of 50 selected senior secondary schools nationwide. This initiative is part of the commission’s mandate as an intervention agency aimed at enhancing educational facilities across the country.
During a groundbreaking ceremony held at one of the selected schools in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, shared this significant development. She emphasized the importance of these upgrades in improving the learning environment for students.
Dr. Ajayi indicated that a comprehensive needs assessment had been conducted across the selected schools. This assessment was carried out in response to the rehabilitation mandate issued by President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing education.
The first phase of the upgrade project is projected to cost approximately N47.5 billion. This substantial investment reflects the government’s dedication to improving educational infrastructure and ensuring that students have access to quality facilities.
Dr. Ajayi reassured schools not included in this initial phase, urging them to remain patient. She stated that once the first phase is completed, the commission will report back to the President and the Minister and will then address the needs of other schools in subsequent phases.
The intervention program aims to significantly impact the educational landscape, providing much-needed resources and infrastructure to enhance the quality of education in the country. The focus is on creating a conducive learning environment for students.
The PUNCH reports that the NSSEC was established in 2021 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Its primary mandate is to oversee and improve senior secondary education across Nigeria.
Through these initiatives, the commission aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their location, have access to quality education and facilities that support their academic growth and development.
