Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has approved the removal of Dr John Chem from his position as chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission. This decision follows a recommendation from the state House of Assembly, which cited concerns over Chem’s judgment in his role. The assembly members accused him of failing to make decisions that would be favorable to the majority of stakeholders.
In a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, it was confirmed that the governor accepted the assembly’s resolution. The statement emphasized that Chem’s actions during his tenure were deemed inadequate in serving the public interest, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the assembly members.
